Virtual Try-On Add-on
Overview
The Virtual Try-On Add-on lets your shoppers see how a product looks on them before they buy. A customer uploads a photo of themselves on the product detail page (PDP), and the Add-on uses AI to generate a realistic image of that customer wearing the selected product.
You configure the Add-on and review its usage in the SCAYLE Panel by navigating to Add-Ons ➜ Virtual Try-On.
Your storefront integrates the try-on experience through the Virtual Try-On widget, which calls a set of dedicated endpoints provided by the Add-on.
Note: This Add-on needs to be enabled for your instance by SCAYLE. If you are interested in using it, please let your SCAYLE Account Manager know.
As this Add-on uses AI, it come with variable costs based on usage of the Add-on. The budget spent on the Add-on can be limited by defining set budgets. For more details, see: Configuration and Usage and Billing.
How It Works on the Product Detail Page
Check availability
The storefront checks with the Add-on whether the feature is active for the current shop and country, and which product categories are excluded. The widgets only gets displayed on the product detail page, if these checks succeed.
Accept consent and upload a photo
The customer opens the widget, accepts the consent notice, confirming that they consent to using the uploaded image for AI image generation, and uploads a photo on the PDP.
Supported image formats are JPG, PNG, and WebP.
Send the generation request
The storefront sends the photo, together with the product and variant, to the Add-on's generate endpoint.
Validate and generate the image
The Add-on validates the product and the image (i.e. explicit content, copyrighted characters or brands, etc.), records the customer's consent, and starts the image generation.
Show and save the result
The storefront shows the generated image to the customer. Logged-in customers can save it to their account, guest customers can download the image.
Key Capabilities
The Add-on provides the following capabilities:
- Realistic try-on generation – creates an image from a customer photo and a SCAYLE product or variant.
- Support for guests and registered customers – registered customers can save results and revisit them. Guests get a single result for the duration of their browser session.
- Control per shop-country – you activate the feature and set its budget independently for each combination of shop and shop country.
- Budget-based cost control – you set a monthly budget per shop-country, with optional top-ups. The feature switches off automatically when the remaining budget can no longer cover another image. Budget is defined for a shop-country as a whole without further segmentation (e.g. splitting a budget across customer segments).
- Category exclusions – you exclude product categories, so try-on is never offered for products in those categories.
- Origin allow-listing – only storefront domains that you configure can access the Add-on, so the widget is visible only in allowed storefronts.
- Usage and spend reporting – the SCAYLE Panel shows images generated per day, current spend, and a projection of how many images the remaining budget covers.
- Content safety and image validation – the Add-on rejects unsuitable input images and blocks inappropriate generations.
- Privacy by design – the Add-on captures explicit consent for each generation, serves images only through time-limited signed URLs, limits how long images and logs are retained, and cleans up customer data after deletion requests.
