Manual Capture

At SCAYLE, you can define when and how payments are captured from your buyers. We currently offer three capture modes:

  • Instant Capture - the payment is captured immediately when the order is placed.
  • Delayed Capture - the payment is captured automatically after a defined period.
  • Manual Capture - the payment capture is not triggered automatically. Instead, you decide when to capture the amount.

This guide explains how manual capture works, when to use it, and how to configure it.

What is Manual Capture?

With manual capture, SCAYLE does not automatically trigger any payment capture. Instead, you initiate the capture process yourself at a time that best fits your use-case.

For example, this can be useful for scenarios such as a “home trial” model, where customers can order products, try them at home, and only be charged if they decide to keep them. If items are returned, the authorization is cancelled and no money is captured.

⚠️ Keep in mind: Payment authorizations are only valid for a limited time, and the window varies depending on the payment method. If you do not capture within this window, the authorization may expire and you might not be able to charge the customer.

Supported Payment Methods

Manual capture can currently be used with the following providers:

  • Adyen
  • PayPal
