Master Categories group your products in a tree structure. They are the foundation for a flexible master data structure and ensure that product data can be managed efficiently in the backend.
Note: Master categories are notvisible in the shop frontend.
Clothing > Women > Tops > Blouses > Festive Blouses.
All already created master categories can be found in SCAYLE under Settings > Product Structure > Categories. Here you can also manage categories and create new ones.
Master categories structure the assortment in the backend through a tree structure (e.g., Bathroom > Bathroom Textiles > Towels).
You can create and edit master categories in Settings > Categories. Master Categories are not displayed in the front end. They structure product data and link products with associated product information.
The assignment of attribute groups to master categories determines which information is displayed and saved on the product detail page.
In SCAYLE, we distinguish between Master Categories and Shop Categories. Master Categories and Shop Categories may, but don’t need to have the same name.

If you create new categories, you first enter the category name and then add attribute group. This determines which information will later be displayed on product detail pages.
Navigate to Settings > Product Structure > Categories.
If there are already categories, use the > icons to navigate to the location where you would like to add the new category.
Click + Add Category.
Enter the category Name and save.
Click + Add Related Attribute Group and select an Attribute Group. Select if this group is mandatory, Default, or Disabled (see explanations below). Repeat this step for more attributes as needed. Click Add Attribute Group.
Click Save Changes.
If a new master category is created under an existing master category, it inherits its attached attribute groups, including deactivated and standard attributes.
SCAYLE has integrated some features that allow you guiding the users when mapping fields for products in a master category.
Default attributes

Default attributes
For instance, if you are selling children’s clothing, there is often the case that the clothing is gender-neutral. You may want to set the attribute group gender to unisex if it is not most certainly for a boy or girl.
To reduce the load for your users, you can specify unisex as default value for the attribute group gender.
Default values will be displayed on the PDP with a Default value badge underneath the respective attribute group. The user can choose
to take this suggestion over by saving the product with this default value assigned
discard this value and choose a different one or none
Disabled attributes
If you are selling children’s clothing and you want to ensure that the attribute group gender can not be set to men or women by accident you may disable these values so they cannot be assigned by the user to the product on the PDP.
