Promotions and Refunds
General Refund Behavior
When an item purchased with a promotional discount is refunded, SCAYLE handles the discount allocation and refund amount based on the promotion type and the recommended discount distribution method.
Refund Impact on Specific Promotion Types
Buy X Get Y Promotions
In the specific case of a Buy X Get Y (where X is the qualifying item and Y is the discounted item), if the qualifying item (X) is refunded, the discount applied to the free or discounted item (Y) will remain valid and will not be clawed back.
- The customer receives a refund for the full purchase price (less any distributed discount) of item X.
- Item Y retains its promotional discount, meaning the customer has effectively received the discount without fulfilling the purchase requirement.
Recommended Discount Distribution: Pro Rata
To effectively manage and mitigate refund risk across multiple items, the Pro Rata distribution method is strongly recommended. For more information, please refer to Managing Pro-Rata Distribution.
System Limitation: Non-Discriminatory Item Refund Selection
There is no built-in logic to prioritize which item is selected for a refund when multiple identical units exist, and only some of them received a promotion or a greater discount.
- Scenario: A customer buys two units of Product Z. A promotion applies a discount to only one of those units.
- Current process: If the customer refunds one unit of Product Z, SCAYLE does not guarantee whether the refunded amount will correspond to the discounted unit or the full-price unit.
This means the financial outcome of the refund is subject to SCAYLE's default unit refund calculation, which does not consider specific item-level discount history.
