Media

Product images, videos and product files (media assets) are often directly transferred from assortment sources to SCAYLE. They are then displayed on the respective product detail pages.

When creating or updating a product, attaching images, videos or documents is optional by default. However, your system configuration may require images to be present before a product can go live. This behaviour is controlled by the setting: product_images_are_mandatory.

When product_images_are_mandatory is set to true:

  • You can create or update a product without attaching any images or documents.
  • However, the product will be saved with the status "problem".
  • The reason will be indicated as: "product has no image".
  • This means the product is not considered complete and will not appear live until at least one image is added.

When product_images_are_mandatory is set to false:

  • You can create or update a product without attaching any images or documents.
  • The product will be saved in the status "live", meaning it is complete and visible as expected.

This logic ensures flexibility in product management while allowing teams to enforce image requirements when necessary. Always check the current configuration of product_images_are_mandatory to understand how your products will be validated upon saving.

You can edit the order of images, delete images, and view product files directly on the product details page. If you want to update product images, there are two options:

  1. Update images for a single product.
  2. Update images for multiple products at once.

Update Images for a Single Product

You can arrange the order of product images on the product detail page. It is always saved globally and can, therefore, only be adjusted on the product detail page in the Operations area. To update product images:

  1. Filter the product list for a specific product.
  2. Open the product detail page and scroll to the Images area (under Media).

This area stores all images that have been uploaded for the product. You can change the order of the images with drag and drop. To add more images click Upload.

With the upload function you can upload new images or manually assign images from the merchant product to the shop product.

Update Multiple Product Images and Videos

If you need to update several product images, it's faster using the Bulk Media Upload function. Bulk media uploads can be done from the Operations area under Products ➜ Bulk Media Upload.

You must first determine which product images or videos you wish to update and which reference criteria you want to use for the new files: Merchant Identifiers, Product IDs, or EAN.

Update Videos for a Single Product

You can upload, preview, and manage product videos directly on the product detail page. Videos are linked to the product on save. Up to 5 videos can be attached per product.

The Videos section is on the product detail page, below Images inside the Media area. You can upload videos when creating or editing a product.

To upload a video, click Upload or drag and drop a file into the Videos section. Supported formats are MP4, MOV, and WebM. Files larger than 100 MB are uploaded automatically in chunks.

After uploading, the video briefly shows a "Processing..." state before the inline player appears. While an upload is in progress, saving the product is blocked until it completes.

You can edit video attributes and remove a video from the product. Drag-and-drop reordering will be available in a future update.

When 5 videos are attached, the upload controls are disabled automatically.

Update Files for a Single Product

Product files are below the product images. You manage files similar to images, but you cannot delete product files or upload new ones in the SCAYLE Panel. They are assigned and managed when importing merchant products.

Permitted File Formats

The following formats are supported:

  • image/png
  • image/jpeg
  • image/gif
  • application/pdf
  • video/mp4
  • video/quicktime (MOV)
  • video/webm
